What is NIMCET or NIT MCA Common Entrance Test?

NIMCET or National Institute of Technology Master of Computer Applications Common Entrance Test is an exam conducted for admissions to MCA programmes. This entrance exam is conducted every year to offer admission into Masters in Computer Application (MCA)Programme in participating NITs. 

Candidates have to clear the NIMCET exam with good rank, and based on their ranks they will be allotted seats at various campuses of NITs. Around 25,000 students register for NIMCET each year and approximately 805 seats are offered in 11 NITs across India. The question paper for NIMCET 2021 will comprise 120 MCQs of 4 marks each. NIMCET 2021 Eligibility Criteria

Below, we are providing NIMCET eligibility criteria which include qualification, marks criteria and nationality criteria. Before filling NIMCET 2021 application from candidates must fulfill the given eligibility criteria.

  1. candidates must be an Indian citizen
  2. Candidates, with 60% marks (6.5/10 CGPA) in Bachelor’s degree of Full Time 3 years duration from a recognized University with Mathematics / Statistics / Business Maths. as one of the subjects in any one semester/year, both in graduation and at 10+2 level are eligible. For SC/ST candidates the percentage of marks required is 55%(6.0/10 CGPA).However, they will have to furnish proof of having passed in the qualifying examination, with 60% marks, at the time of counselling / admission. Indian Nationals only are eligible to appear for the examination.
  3. Students with BE/B Tech or equivalent from a recognized University can appear for the exam.
  4. Aspirants who will be appearing for the qualifying examination can also apply for NIMCET-2021
  5. There is no restriction on the number of attempts in the NIMCET eligibility criteria. The aspirants are free to appear any number of times for the NIMCET exam.


NIMCET 2021 Exam Pattern

NIMCET 2021 exam pattern consists of information regarding exam mode, marks distribution, the format of the exam, the total number of questions, question paper type and negative marking in the entrance exam. NIMCET exam pattern is specified by the test conducting the National Institute of Technology (NIT). Candidates appearing for the entrance exam must have a fair idea about the exam pattern of NIMCET 2021


Mode :- Examination will be held offline (pen- paper based).
Exam Duration:-The total time provided to the candidates is  2 hours or 120 minutes.
Marking Scheme: The marking scheme for NIMCET 2021 is given below:
     
  •    For every correct answer, 4 marks will be awarded.
  •  There will be  deduction of 1 mark for every incorrect answer.
  • No deduction of marks will be there for unattempted questions.
  • If the candidate marks more than one answer for any question, the answer will                   considered invalid and one mark will be deducted per question.
  • The total number of marks is 480.
Paper Medium: Candidates can write the NIMCET paper in the English language only.

Total Number of Sections: The paper will be divided into four sections that are Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning, Computer Awareness, General English, and Mathematics.
Type of Questions: The exam paper will comprise of Multiple-choice questions.
Note :- The answer marked in Blue or Black ink will only be considered as valid.


SYLLABUS For syllabus :-


MATHEMATICS :( 50 questions)
Set Theory: Concepts of sets – Union – Intersection – Cardinality – Elementary counting, permutations and combinations Probability and Statistics: Basic concepts of probability theory, Averages, Dependent and independent events, frequency distributions, measures of central tendencies and dispersions. Algebra: Fundamental operations in Algebra, Expansions, Factorization, simultaneous linear/quadratic equations, indices, logarithms- arithmetic, geometric and harmonic progressions, determinants and matrices. Coordinate Geometry: Rectangular Cartesian coordinates, distance formulae, equations of a line, intersection of lines, pair of straight lines, equations of a circle, parabola, ellipse, and hyperbola. Calculus: Limit of functions, Continuous functions, Differentiation of functions, tangents and normals, simple examples of maxima and minima. Integration of function by parts, by substitution and by partial fraction; Definite integrals, Applications of Definite Integrals to areas. Vectors: Position vector, addition and subtraction of vectors, scalar and vector products and their applications to simple geometrical problems and mechanics. Trigonometry: Simple identities, trigonometric equations, properties of triangles, solution of triangles, heights and distances, General solutions of trigonometric equations.
All the topics are important in mathematics. The most important ones are calculus, probability, trigonometry and coordinate geometry.



ANALYTICAL ABILITY AND LOGICAL REASONING: (40 questions)

The second most important section of the NIMCET question paper is Analytical Ability & Logical Reasoning. Candidates need to answer a maximum of 40 questions in this section. The questions in this section will cover logical situations and questions based on the facts given in the passage. Hence, there is no topic-wise syllabus prescribed for this section.

COMPUTER AWARENESS: (10 questions)
Computer Basics (CPU, input/output devices, Organization of a computer, computer memory, and back-up devices etc) and Data Representation (characters, integers, binary and hexadecimal representation, Boolean algebra, truth tables, Venn diagrams etc.)

GENERAL ENGLISH: (20 questions)
Questions in this section will be designed to test the candidates’ general understanding of the English language. There will be questions on the following topics. Comprehension, Vocabulary, Basic English Grammar (like usage of correct forms of verbs, prepositions and articles), Word power, Synonyms and Antonyms, Meanings of words and phrases, Technical writing.
